South Clinton Elementary School is one of the three schools comprising the Clinton City School system. Originally constructed in 1936 as part of the Anderson County School system, the school consisted of six rooms serving grades one through eight. The first recorded enrollment was 237 for the 1937-38 school year. The city of Clinton annexed much of the Sough Clinton school zone and built a new school that opened in 1986. This building, a one-level brick structure, is fully accessible to person with physical disabilities. With additions, it now provides 30 rooms that serve preschool students through grade six.
From the opening of the new building in 1986 through the 2006-07 school year, SCES was operated by the Clinton City School system but served both city and county students in the South Clinton area. Bus services for the school were provided by the Anderson County Schools. When the twenty-year contractual agreement between the two school systems expired at the end of the 2006-07 school year, Anderson county ended bus service to SCES and rezoned students living outside Clinton’s city limits in the South Clinton area to Claxton, the nearest Anderson County school. Several of these rezoned students elected to ride buses to Claxton or another county school; but the majority chose to return to SCES, even though no transportation services are currently provided.
All of our 25 teachers are teaching in areas for which they are certified. 67 percent hold an advanced degree.
SCES is also very lucky to have a group of trained, talented, and experienced educational assistants to supplement the services of our certified staff.
Lori Collins - SCES Principal
Message from the SCES Principal
From the Principal My name is Lori Collins and this is my second year at SCES and the Clinton City School System. I grew up in Anderson County and graduated from Anderson County High School. Before coming to Clinton City Schools I worked in Anderson County. I've been a Kindergarten, 1st and 4th grade teacher, as well as a Literacy Coach. I currently live in Halls with my husband and two children.
If you are new to the area I'm sure you will find out very quickly what a wonderful place we have here in South Clinton. The teachers are hard working, supportive, and willing to do what needs to get done to teach our students. Our students are a wonderfully well behaved group of children. Our parents and community support this school in a variety of ways. Everyone works together here to make SCES a success.
We invite you to come visit our school. Check out our school calendar to be updated of special events.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
